The Foundation of Our Planet Have you ever wondered about the origin of the rocks you see during your hikes, how the beautiful landscape you see right in front of your eyes was formed or even how long it took to get to today's structure? Well, this is what Geology is for: to understand the origin and the processes that all components underwent throughout the past billions of years to become what we see today.  Since starting geology lessons this semester, we've been paying more attention to the rocks we see while hiking. Identifying them isn’t easy—it takes a good lens (10x or 12x magnification) and a comparison to known samples. But it's a fascinating process! And geology is about so much more than just rocks. Breathing Life: Earth's Atmosphere Picture our planet wrapped in an invisible, life-giving blanket that stretches from the ground beneath your feet to the edge of space. This is the atmosphere – a dynamic, ever-changing system that's been silently supporting life for billions of years...well, thank you, dear! It is retained by Earth's gravity, so that it can stay with u, and most of its mass (~98%) is below  ~ 25km.

Let's revise some basic concepts Hello and welcome to the very first post of the Geoscience section ! We will talk more about the scientific aspects of our planet: to enjoy a good hike, you should know something about what you're stepping on or what's around you. So, I'd like to start off with a little introduction to the dynamics of our atmosphere; there's so much going on yet we take too many things for granted, so I want to make a couple of things clear before diving into the more interesting facts, so you have a solid base for future posts, so nice of me. L et's start!

For our next adventure, we set our sights on Monte Trevisan and Monte Alto , two stunning peaks in the Colli Euganei , with a grand start at the elegant Villa Draghi. If you’re looking for a hike that blends breathtaking views, lush nature, and a touch of historical charm, this is the one for you! The sun didn’t bother to come out this time, but at least it didn’t rain, and the hike was still enjoyable.

As our first official hike together as a group, we set out to conquer Monte Ricco in Monselice - a gorgeous hill in the southeastern part of the Colli Euganei that boasts olive trees, a fascinating hermitage at its summit, and a seriously cool geological past.  The weather wasn't the best to start with, but it got better when we passed the inversion layer that was keeping all that fog at the base; let this be a quick reminder that you can enjoy the hills all year round, but spring would be the best *wink*
